A Perfect-Weather Life—and How I Built It

“I love the cold weather here,” I texted a friend.

I was strolling along an empty Pacific beach in Los Cabos, messaging with a pal back in rainy, wintery Ireland. It was late afternoon. The heat of the day had faded. The air was cooling, and a light breeze was rolling in off the ocean.

My phone pinged.

“What’s considered cold in Cabo?”

“23 degrees,” I replied, converting 73 F to Celsius for my Irish friend.

My phone pinged again.

I’ll let you imagine his response. Let’s just say, it wouldn’t be allowed on primetime TV.

A photo I snapped after arriving in Cabo last week. This is the beach where I go for my morning walks…and where I send messages teasing my friends back home about the weather.

I landed back in Los Cabos in late January. Since I first bought here more than a decade ago, this place has become a winter refuge for me.

A perfect-weather escape.

I love the laidback seaside vibe…the natural beauty of the desert and mountains meeting the sea in dramatic fashion…the vast stretches of golden-sand beach…

The lifestyle here energizes me. It recharges my batteries.

I take long morning walks on the beach, where I can watch whales breaching steps from the shore. I hike in rust-colored desert hills dotted with towering cardón cacti. I golf with buddies on world-class ocean-view courses, the sound of Pacific waves crashing in the background.

I dine al fresco in restaurants that rival the best everywhere, snacking on tacos of slow-cooked pork shoulder and rib-eye steak…wood-fired pizza topped with farm-to-table tomatoes and pesto…sushi made with fresh fish caught just offshore…

Cabo has become a tentpole of what I call my boundless life.

I’ve spent years crafting this life where I divide my year between my homes in Cabo, Guadalajara, Portugal, and Ireland. Always enjoying perfect weather. Never again wishing away a dark, cold, and dreary winter.

And I get paid to live this way.

Because when you buy best-in-class real estate ahead of demand in a world-class destination, you don’t just get a life-changing lifestyle. You get paid for living it through rental income and capital appreciation by the renters and the wave of buyers who follow you.

Places that offer a foundation for this kind of boundless life are rare. Cabo is one. Lagos in Portugal, where I just brought members of my Real Estate Trend Alert (RETA) group a mind-blowing members-only deal, is another…

For nine months of the year, the weather in Cabo is perfect. Long, warm, sunny days followed by cool evenings for a restful night’s sleep.

Folks are trained to believe that adding to your lifestyle like this costs you money, but the reality is that when you buy right, it can make you money.

The RETA deal that opened last week in Lagos is the perfect example.

The RETA members who got in on this incredible deal will own stunning blue-chip real estate in one of the most livable luxury coastal destinations in Europe.

They can walk Lagos’ long, empty beaches…enjoy coffee in the cobbled lanes of its historic old town…hike along golden-sandstone cliffs overlooking one of Europe’s most stunning coastlines…and sip evening cocktails at its glistening marina…

And when they’re not using their condo and enjoying this lifestyle, they’ll see incredible rental demand and capital appreciation from the vacationers and buyers who come after them.

With this deal, I expect gains of €292,500 just three years after delivery and annual gross rental income of €76,500 renting short-term once the community is established. That’s a gross yield of over 13%.

This Lagos opportunity offers what I’ve seen in Cabo…but even more so.

A boundless life paid for by someone else…

The town of Lagos on the western Algarve is drawing well-heeled folks from around the world thanks to its compelling mix of rich history, stunning beaches, incredible climate, and luxury marina district. This town now ranks among the elite European coastal destinations—an ideal place to build a boundless life.

Cabo was where my boundless life began for me…

I bought my first Cabo condo in a RETA members-only deal back in 2015. I purchased it purely as an investment—and it’s turned out to be an exceptional one.

The RETA-only price on a two-bed, ocean-view condo in the best-in-class Copala community inside the 5-star Quivira Resort was $336,156. Last year, an identical condo listed for $729,000.

And there’s income. When I’m not using the condo, I rent it for $3,000 per month—an annualized gross yield of 10.7% renting long term.

Financially, it’s been a home run.

But the lifestyle access has been just as valuable, if not more so.

The weather. The golf. The community. The beaches. Never again dealing with snow, frost, or icy winter rain.

The impact on my health has been incredible, too.

All my life, I struggled to conjure the motivation to go to the gym. In Cabo, it’s different. The light, the sun, the sea air—they pull you outdoors. Here, I want to be active. I want to work out.

It’s the same with my condo in Portugal…

Another Cabo photo I took earlier this week. The sunsets in the southern Baja peninsula are epic…fiery burnt orange receding into glistening blue waters.

I own a condo on Portugal’s Silver Coast. My home in the Praia D’El Rey Beach and Golf Resort sits right up on the beach…a minute’s stroll from the sand. I have panoramic ocean views from my large terrace. From my living room I can hear the Atlantic waves crashing on the shore and feel the sea air on my skin.

When I’m there, I walk on the beach, golf on ocean-view courses, eat the freshest seafood in the charming coastal villages nearby…

I bought my condo in 2020 for €300,000. A few years ago, a local agent wanted to list it for €450,000. Today, I expect it would list for more—but there are no comparable condos coming onto the market. In my area, I’ve seen just one listing in the past six months.

Everything was for sale when I arrived there in 2020. Now nothing is.

Teeing off at my home course at Praia D’El Rey. This stunning course is just a stroll from my beachfront condo on Portugal’s Silver Coast.

Today, I have other bases too, like my historic villa in the town of Caminha in northern Portugal, where I also expect summer rentals to cover the entire annual cost of ownership.

And soon new properties will join the mix—in Playa del Carmen on Mexico’s Riviera Maya…in the vast, luxurious master-planned enclave of Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic…along Costa Rica’s sought-after “Gold Coast”…

All of them offering easy access to the ocean…to incredible food and weather…to energizing lifestyles…

And I’ll earn money for owning all of them.

Turning back to Cabo…

Usually I stay at my Copala condo when I’m here. But this year, my scouting schedule meant I wasn’t sure which dates I would be able to return. So, I’ve allowed my renter to remain in situ (and keep paying me $3,000 per month).

I’m spending just under a month in Cabo. For the first two weeks, I’ve rented out a three-bed condo with a roof terrace in the Mavila community in Quivira.

Then, I’m staying for free in a Mavila villa. In 2018, RETA members could buy these villas from $428,222. In 2024, one listed for $850,000.

I’ll be staying in this villa for free by using points I earned on a house-swapping platform from allowing a family to stay at my Silver Coast condo in Portugal earlier this month. This is yet another way the right real estate unlocks a boundless life.

At the moment, I’m scouting Cabo…

It’s booming. Change everywhere. New resorts. New golf courses under development. Demand is incredible. A record number of visitors arrived in 2025. Availability of rentals in places like Mavila has been disappearing. I was shocked by the lack of options when I booked.

More on this soon.

For today, I hope you’ll consider the lesson I learned in Cabo. Adding to your lifestyle doesn’t have to cost you money. When you buy right, it can make you money.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m heading out for a walk on the beach…and to annoy friends with more texts about the “cold weather.”

Wishing you good real estate investing,

P.S. On Friday, I head to trendy Todos Santos—less than an hour from Cabo— for the weekend. I’ll be searching for opportunities there. Tomorrow, I’ll share a little about the town and my upcoming scouting there.
