The town of Cognac sits on the Charente River in southwestern France, where medieval streets wind between pale stone buildings and historic brandy houses line the waterfront. This is the birthplace of King François I and the only place in the world where cognac can be legally distilled.
The medieval quarter stretches along the river, with cobbled streets and facades carved with the salamander symbol of the Renaissance king. The riverside promenade passes the Château des Valois, where François I was born in 1494, and the major cognac houses of Hennessy, Martell, and Rémy Martin offer tours and tastings.
This stone townhouse of approximately 1,6100 square feet stands within walking distance of the town center, with south-facing garden and direct river access. The entrance hall opens to a kitchen and dining area with large windows and garden views. An office area currently serving as a television lounge, and a laundry room completes the floor.
The upper floor has three bedrooms, the largest with walk-in wardrobe, a private shower, and separate toilet. A family bathroom overlooks the garden, and an additional shower stands in the hallway. Stairs rise to the converted attic, where a fourth bedroom spans the width of the house.
