Molières, Midi-Pyrénées, France: €170,000

The Périgord Noir is one of France’s great food regions. Black truffles, duck confit, foie gras, and walnut oil are all produced locally. From spring to autumn, weekly markets fill the squares of the medieval bastide towns that dot this corner of the Dordogne.

Molières is one of them. Built to a grid, with a central market square and shops and schools within easy reach on foot.

This village house of around 2,475 square feet sits in the center of Molières. On the ground floor, an entrance hall opens to an office, a living room, a dining room, and a fitted kitchen with access to the garden terrace. Outside, the terrace is divided into a covered section, a barbecue area, and a workshop, with a garage below. Upstairs, a corridor leads to four bedrooms, two with dressing rooms, a bathroom, and a room that could serve as a fifth bedroom.

Sarlat-la-Canéda, the region’s best preserved medieval town and a busy market center, is around twenty minutes by road. Bergerac Airport, serving routes to the UK and several European cities, is around forty-five minutes away.
