VIDEO: Europe’s “Best Island” is Still Surprisingly Affordable

For more than 20 years, I’ve traveled the world in search of exceptional real estate opportunities.

I look for inherently desirable destinations where demand is growing—but where real estate prices haven’t yet caught up. Places where you can get in ahead of the crowds and position yourself for strong rental income and capital appreciation.

The island I explore in today’s video is a compelling example. It doesn’t fit the usual picture of a European island.

This is not a place of long sandy beaches and scorching Mediterranean summers.

Instead, imagine a mountain rising sharply from the Atlantic…covered in ancient forests, terraced hillsides and gardens that remain green throughout the year.

Winter temperatures typically sit in the low 60s. Summers hover in the mid-70s.

That mild, stable climate has drawn visitors here for generations. And as summers grow hotter in many competing destinations, it’s becoming an increasingly valuable asset.

Part of Portugal, it has been voted Europe’s best island destination 10 times.

Yet an ocean-view home here still costs a fraction of what you’d pay for a comparable property in California, for example.

I’ve just released my video deep-dive on this destination in the new episode of The Ronan McMahon Report.

Click below to watch it now. And when you’re done, share your thoughts or questions in the comments. My team and I read them all.

In this new deep-dive on my YouTube channel, I take you to a unique European island. Click to view…

The island is Madeira, an autonomous region of Portugal about 600 miles out in the Atlantic.

For much of its history, it was difficult to reach—and even harder to navigate. Then a wave of infrastructure transformed it.

The airport runway was extended over the Atlantic. Tunnels were driven through the mountains. Journeys that once took half a day were cut to under an hour.

The world followed. Madeira welcomed a record 2.5 million visitors in 2025, including remote workers, retirees and affluent Europeans searching for somewhere safe, beautiful and temperate.

But the real estate opportunity isn’t spread evenly across the island.

To find it, you need to follow a pattern that Madeirans understood centuries ago…

Watch my new video to learn:

  • The simple rule that points to Madeira’s most desirable real estate…
  • How a shortage of buildable coastal land creates genuine scarcity…
  • And the mistake that could undermine your rental-income plans before you even buy…

It’s all in my new video.

Wishing you good real estate investing,

P.S. On Monday, I launched a new weekly show on my YouTube channel: The Ronan McMahon Report Live. This is different to my destination deep-dives.

Each week, I’ll sit down with members of my team to discuss the biggest trends unfolding across our global beat…share what we’re seeing on the ground…and highlight the specific places and properties catching our attention.

In the first episode, my Editorial Director Ciaran Madden and I dove into one of the biggest questions I hear today: Is Portugal’s real estate opportunity over?

If you missed it, you can watch the first episode here.

Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
