I’m Heading Back to Portugal’s Algarve

In this week’s Your Overseas Dream Home Digest…

Soon, I’ll be driving the length of Portugal…

Tomorrow, I fly from Cork to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, on my way to my home in Caminha in northern Portugal (Porto is closer but there’s no direct flight from Cork).

On Tuesday, June 16 at 1 p.m. ET, I’ll be speaking to members of my Real Estate Trend Alert (RETA) group from my Caminha home in a RETA Live.

These are new monthly online events where I sit down with key members of my team to discuss what we’re seeing across our global beat.

Then, after spending a few days at my home in Caminha, I’ll travel south…

I’ll stop in the Silver Coast region of Portugal, where I own a beachfront condo, to continue my scouting of that region.

Then on June 22, I’ll reach my ultimate destination—the most beautiful and historic beach town on Portugal’s southern Algarve coast…

The town of Lagos.

The historic town of Lagos is set along one of Europe’s most striking coastlines. I’m putting boots on the ground here from June 22. My objective: secure a killer new deal for my RETA group.

My objective in going to Lagos is simple…

This town has been the site of some of the best deals in the history of my RETA group. Now there’s a rapidly closing window of opportunity there. And I intend to jam my elbows into it and hold it open long enough to get another incredible deal for RETA members.

The developer I’m meeting with is someone my group has known and worked with for years.

In Lagos today, relationships are the only way into off-market deals like this.

I can’t share full details yet. But I can tell you this…

This opportunity sits in the most coveted coastal quarter of Lagos, close to the two beaches locals argue over as the town’s best—Porto de Mos and Dona Ana. (Dona Ana is so spectacular it’s been ranked among the best beaches in the world.)

The community itself is set to raise the bar for everything in town. Four pools, including a rooftop pool with sweeping ocean views…a spa with heated indoor pool, jacuzzi, and sauna…a gym…rooftop lounge and fire pit areas…

I’ve been scouting and recommending real estate in Lagos for years. I have rarely if ever seen an amenity stack like this here.

If the numbers come together the way I believe they can, this will be a flagship RETA deal. But I’ll know a lot more once I’ve walked the site, sat across the table from the developer, and completed the final pieces.

More on this soon…

In this week’s digest, a clip from a recent RETA Rolodex Live explaining how residency and citizenship work in Uruguay… a remarkable Irish castle for sale in County Tipperary…and a reminder to save the date for The Gathering XIII, the annual meetup for RETA Lifetime members.

But first, in my latest YouTube video, a look at the understated beach town quietly attracting some of South America’s wealthiest families.

Praia Dona Ana in the town of Lagos is one of the most photographed beaches in the Algarve. I’ve been scouting this Portuguese town for well over a decade and I’ve found some mind-blowing deals here. Now I’m closing in on something new. Prepare by reading my Guide To Buying Real Estate in Portugal.

VIDEO: The Uruguayan Beach Town Beloved by the Ultra-Rich

While I’m preparing for another trip to Portugal, I’ve also been keeping a close eye on developments on the other side of the Atlantic.

In the latest episode of The Ronan McMahon Report, I take you to a corner of Uruguay that’s attracting growing interest from some of South America’s wealthiest folk.

Many visitors to Uruguay’s coast head straight for Punta del Este.

Often called the Monaco or St. Tropez of South America, Punta attracts celebrities, billionaires, yacht owners, and some of the wealthiest families in Latin America.

But in recent years, many have begun looking a little further east.

There, beyond the high-rises and beach clubs, lies a laidback seaside town that has quietly become one of the most sought-after addresses in the country: La Barra.

And right now, this quiet enclave is beginning to evolve into something much bigger…

Earlier this week, I released my video deep-dive on it in the new episode of The Ronan McMahon Report.

Residency and Citizenship in Uruguay

Uruguay isn’t just an attractive place to buy. The country also has a straightforward path to residency.

Earlier this week, Uruguay was the focus of a Rolodex Live event.

Rolodex Live events are closed-door online briefings where Lifetime members of my RETA group hear directly from top contacts from my personal network and can ask questions live.

These sessions are hosted by RETA Senior Researcher Margaret Summerfield.

The latest Rolodex Live featured my Uruguay attorney, Juan Fischer. Member interest was especially high around residency and citizenship and, today, I want to share a clip from that discussion…

At this recent Rolodex Live hosted by RETA Senior Researcher Margaret Summerfield, attorney Juan Fischer answered questions on buying in Uruguay, residency, tax breaks and more. Own an 840-Year-Old Irish Castle

From a practical discussion about residency and citizenship to something a little more romantic…

In yesterday’s dispatch, I featured an 840-year-old Irish castle.

Most people assume such lavish properties are beyond their reach.

But a remarkable castle in County Tipperary is currently on the market for less than the median price of a single-family home in California (which is $854,000 according to Forbes).

Ardfinnan Castle traces its origins to 1185 and was commissioned by John, Lord of Ireland—later King John of England. Today it’s a private residence set on 17 acres overlooking the River Suir, complete with fishing rights and ownership rights over a river island.

You can read the full details here.

Built more than 840 years ago, Ardfinnan Castle overlooks the River Suir in County Tipperary. Included in the sale are fishing rights and rights relating to a river island.Get all the details here.

Save the Date: The Gathering XIII

Before I get to this week’s reader question, I have an important save-the-date reminder…

Every year, I bring my network of contacts together with me, my scouting team, and Lifetime members of my Real Estate Trend Alert (RETA) group.

At this event, called The Gathering, we meet…share intelligence from across the world… compare notes on emerging markets… and discuss the kinds of opportunities most investors never hear about.

I recently signed the contracts for The Gathering XIII, next year’s event. It will take place from February 11 to 14, 2027 in cosmopolitan Panama City.

This event is for RETA Lifetime members only.

Click here to learn how to become a RETA Lifetime member and secure your invitation to the event.

The Gathering XIII is shaping up to be the biggest and best in RETA’s history.

Here’s a short video I recorded to explain…

Your Questions Answered

Have a comment for me or my team? A question about owning overseas? Share it here. I’d love to hear from you. Here’s a comment I got from a viewer of my YouTube channel recently in response to my video about La Paz, Mexico. One of the goals of my YouTube channel is to help cut through the noise and misinformation that often surrounds overseas real estate. Mexico’s fideicomiso system is a perfect example…

If you missed my La Paz video, you can watch it here.

Wishing you good real estate investing,

P.S. If you have a question about buying real estate overseas or have suggestions for destinations my team and I should put on our scouting list, drop me a line here.
