Look beyond the country’s most famous destinations and you can still find remarkable value.
The property I’m sharing today is a case in point…
We recently featured it on our Your Overseas Dream Home Instagram account.
It’s in Soriano nel Cimino, a historic hill town in the northern part of Lazio, the region that surrounds Rome.
The asking price is €225,000 (about $256,000).
That’s less than the median price of a home in Texas, for example, which is $341,800, according to Forbes.
And this isn’t a tiny fixer-upper.
It’s a furnished three-bedroom home with around 1,450 square feet of living space, spread across two floors.
Here’s what your money buys…
Stonework, greenery and space for outdoor dining make the courtyard a secluded extension of the home.
The property sits a short distance from Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, the main square at the heart of Soriano nel Cimino.
What first catches your eye is the courtyard.
Set behind a wrought-iron gate, it’s finished with stone, plants and outdoor furnishings. There’s space to sit out with your morning coffee…enjoy lunch in the shade…or linger over dinner on a warm evening.

Soriano nel Cimino is a hill town in central Italy, about 45 miles north of Rome.
It sits at the foot of the Cimini Mountains, surrounded by oak, beech and chestnut forests.
The historic center is a maze of medieval lanes, arches, stairways and stone houses. Above it rises Orsini Castle, an imposing medieval fortress with crenellated towers and ramparts.
But history here isn’t confined to monuments.
Everyday life still unfolds in the old center, where you can walk to local shops…stop for coffee in the main square…and buy fresh bread from the neighborhood bakery.
Each October, Soriano celebrates its chestnut harvest with the Sagra delle Castagne, a historic festival that fills the town with parades, period costumes and local food.
Beyond the center, walking trails lead into the surrounding forests, including the monumental chestnut grove for which the area is known.
The city of Viterbo is around 20 minutes away. Rome Fiumicino Airport is around an hour and twenty minutes by road. That puts everyday services and Rome itself—one of Europe’s great capitals—within reach.
So while Soriano offers the atmosphere and pace of a small Italian hill town, you’re not cut off from the wider region.
