Beach homes from €190,000.
A new, two-bed condo for just €185,000 in a charming, wildly attractive town that is culturally rich, peaceful, and livable.
A vast farmhouse 10 minutes’ drive from one of Portugal’s most incredible cities for €200,000.
These are just some of the findings from the latest scouting trip to northern Portugal by members of my Real Estate Trend Alert team.
My scout Ciaran Madden and RETA photographer/videographer Alan Kennedy have just stepped off the plane after spending more than a week with boots on the ground in this overlooked part of the country.
What they found there is mind-blowing…
Portugal has become Europe’s red-hot tourist and retiree destinations in the last few years. But as its popularity has soared, so too have real estate prices. Finding value in places like Lisbon, Porto, and the Algarve has become a challenge.
That’s why my team and I have had our eye on northern Portugal for some time. The north of the country, however, remains overlooked and undervalued. Last week Ciaran and Alan were digging deep on this quiet pocket of the country.
What they uncovered is astonishing…and immensely urgent!
This corner of Portugal might be the best Portugal opportunity yet, and the moment is now!
Right now, we’re pulling together an in-depth report on everything they uncovered. They’ve been working on this while on the road and today we’re putting the final touches to it. RETA members will have it in their inboxes very soon.
(If you’re not yet a RETA member but want to get your hands on this report, you can join here and you’ll get instant access to the report when it’s released.)
It’ll be packed full of all their on-the-ground insights, images, maps, video walkthroughs of properties they visited, contact details for local real estate agents, and more. We’ll also be including an important update on the new short-term rental rules in Portugal (Spoiler: The rules are poised to change again and it’s great news for investors.)
I’m eager to get this report out ASAP.
The opportunities on offer in northern Portugal right now won’t be around for long. It’s only a matter of time before the rest of the world realizes how beautiful, charming, and affordable this area is. (Travel and Leisure is already talking about the northern city of Braga…far behind my RETA group of course. We’ve been scouting there for years. But I still give them credit for being ahead of the mainstream pack.)
Just like in the Algarve and the Silver Coast, the visitors will come in droves. And by then, real estate prices will have more than doubled. Now is the time to look at northern Portugal.
Like I said, the full, detailed report will drop very soon. Keep an eye on your inbox.

In the meantime, here’s a recap of all the updates my scouts shared from the road while they were in northern Portugal:
A True Beachfront Condo in Portugal for €706.49 per Month
The beaches on Portugal’s north coast are every bit as incredible as those on the Algarve or the Silver Coast…with long, sweeping stretches of golden sand. Except there’s one difference.
In the north, the beaches are far less touristy and you can still find true beachfront condo at incredible prices.
I’m talking homes where you can wake up to the sounds of the waves crashing on the beach that’s on your doorstep…all for just €225,000. Read more here.
A Historic Farmhouse in Portugal for €587 per Month
A rural retreat on almost half an acre of land just 10 minutes’ drive from one of Portugal’s most charming cities for just €200,000… it sounds almost unbelievable.
But while on the road in the culture-rich town of Viana do Castelo, at the mouth of the River Lima, my scouts met an American expat who was helping renovate that very property. And he showed them around and explained his plans for it. In Ciaran’s own words: “Mind. Blown.”
Beach Homes in Northern Portugal from €190,000
While in Portugal, my scouts visited the wealthy coastal enclave of Esposende…
Little known to foreign tourists, Esposende was once a fishing town, but today hosts multi-million-dollar villas, which line the road into the city. These villas are popular with second-home owners from the nearby cities of Porto and Braga. Yet, because this town is overlooked outside of the local, wealthy set, you can own here for a fraction of these prices.
For instance, just 200 meters from this beach, my team found a three-bed, one-bath, 1,450-square-foot condo for sale. It has a large, bright living/dining room, a separate kitchen, and two terraces. And you can be on the beach in just a couple of minutes. It’s on the market for only €190,000 ($203,800).
You’ll find this listing, and several others Ciaran shared with me while he had boots on the ground, here.
In Photos: Bargain Homes in Portugal’s “Oldest” Town
Just as Ciaran and Alan were wrapping up to come home at the weekend, they decided to take in one last northern Portugal town.
It was a place they’d been hearing about consistently over the course of their week on the road. It kept popping up again and again in conversations with investors, developers, real estate agents, tourists, expats…
When this happens, a good real estate scout knows it’s worth taking a look.
The town is said to be one of the oldest in Portugal…it’s also beautiful, culturally rich and you can buy a new-build, apartment there for less than €200,000.
Read more about the town and the incredible bargains you’ll find there.
These dispatches are just snapshots of what Ciaran and Alan uncovered on their scouting mission around Portugal’s north. They have so much more to share.
We’re putting all their findings and insights into an in-depth report that will in RETA members inboxes very soon.
