Owning a vineyard is more than just a business venture. Vineyards offer an idyllic lifestyle that comes with lots of benefits.
Imagine waking up to rolling hills bathed in golden sunlight, with rows of vines stretching toward the horizon. Your day starts with a stroll through those sunlit vines and ends with a glass of your own vintage, watching the sun set over your property.
Then there’s the connection to the land. Wine production requires spending time outdoors, being active and surrounded by nature. This type of lifestyle is known to improve physical and mental health and reduce stress.
Of course, buying a vineyard generally requires a significant sum. But when you look overseas, particularly to South America, you’ll find that owning your very own vineyard can be far more affordable than you might imagine.
There are even options for as little as $210,000…

Across South America right now, the wine harvest is getting underway. Owning a vineyard would allow you to be part of this rich tradition.
Across South America right now, the wine harvest is getting underway. Owning a vineyard would allow you to be part of this rich tradition.
South America is home to world-renowned wine-producing regions like Argentina’s Mendoza and Chile’s Colchagua Valley, and offers the perfect location for producing exceptional wines.
The climate is a vintner’s dream—warm days, cool nights, and mineral-rich soil that produces world-class Malbecs, Carménères, and Cabernet Sauvignons.
Land in this region tends to be far more affordable than in traditional European and American wine-growing regions, so you can buy a property and start making your own wine for a fraction of what you pay in California for a typical home. (As of January 2025, the median home sales price in California was $773,263.)
I asked my team to investigate some of the best places to own a vineyard in Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay. They looked in regions like Mendoza and San Rafael, places where your money buys more and promises an incredible lifestyle. And they found vineyards, with homes included, for less than half of the cost of that median home in California.
Read on to see what they discovered…
Mendoza, Argentina
Listing price: $210,000

This home features a vineyard with 17 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and Muscatel grapes. It’s in Mendoza, Argentina, a region renowned for its quality wine. Listing here.
Mendoza, in western Argentina, is famous for its Malbec, which has become the country’s signature grape.
The region is nestled at the foot of the Andes Mountains, where expanses of sun-drenched vineyards are set against the dramatic backdrop of snow-capped peaks. The high-altitude desert climate, and the big difference between day and night temperatures, create perfect conditions for grapes to thrive.
Vineyards in Mendoza also benefit from a unique irrigation system dating back to the pre-Columbus era. A series of channels and dams bring snowmelt down from the Andes providing fresh water for the vines.
My team found this vineyard on the market in San Rafael, a charming city in southern Mendoza province with Spanish colonial buildings and tree-lined streets. The property includes a small home with a swimming pool, a grape arbor, and a 1,000-square-foot garage/barn.
The surrounding 48-acre farm has 17 acres of grapevines, primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, producing an average of 61,000 kilograms of grapes annually. The farm has 25 uncultivated acres and has both a canal and deep-well irrigation.
It’s on the market for $210,000 and you can check out the listing here.
Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina
Listing Price: $360,000

Outdoors activities are one of the advantages of owning a vineyard home. This one also in Mendoza, Argentina, includes a “quincho” (an outdoor space with a grill for social gatherings). Listing here.
Perdriel, a small district also located in Mendoza, is known for its prestigious wineries and high-quality Malbec vineyards.
Due to its proximity to the Andes Mountains, it has an ideal climate and soil for viticulture. The area blends rural charm with modern winemaking, and is home to both historic bodegas and boutique wineries.
Set on just under two acres, this boutique winery in Perdriel features a vineyard with varietals, an event hall for 80 guests, a 10,000-bottle barrel room, a lab, storage, and a main house with two bedrooms.
The property also includes a quincho (outdoor or semi-covered space with a grill for social gatherings) with a clay oven, a farm, and beautifully landscaped grounds. It’s on the market for $360,000 and you can find the full listing here.
San Rafael, Chile
Listing Price: $560,759

This home set in a vineyard master-planned community in San Rafael, Chile, is available for $560,759. Listing here.
If you like the idea of your own vineyard but you don’t want to have to do the harvesting yourself, this next listing might be for you.
San Rafael is a region of Chile known for its agricultural economy, particularly the production of fruits, vegetables, and of course: wine grapes. The area has a peaceful countryside atmosphere with rolling hills, fertile lands, and a mild Mediterranean climate. San Rafael also has historical significance, with colonial-era churches.
In an area of San Rafael called Pircas Apalta, there’s a residential project set within a vineyard. The community offers lots of about 1.2 acres on which you have a home and some vines.
My team found this modern single-story house on the market in the community. It features four bedrooms, two full bathrooms, an open living-dining area with a kitchen, and a guest bathroom. Outdoor amenities include a spacious terrace, barbecue area, lounge, deck, and a swimming pool.
The beauty of this home is that your small vineyard will be managed by renowned winemakers and viticulturists. These experts uphold the tradition of producing exceptional wines from 27 hectares of Syrah, Carménère, and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Each wine lot owner receives 150 personalized and labeled bottles of wine from this production annually.
This house and lot are on the market for $560,759 and you can find the listing here.

We’re going to finish with a bit of luxury…

Located about 20 miles from the popular beach resort of Punta del Este, it has transformed from a quiet fishing village into a trendy destination for celebrities and wealthy travelers, and now offers fine dining and boutique hotels.
Not far from the town, my team found this 6-hectare estate that combines traditional charm with modern luxury. It’s just 2 miles from the beach.
The main residence has 8,880 square feet of living space that includes an open-plan kitchen and dining area, a cozy living room with a fireplace, a wine cellar, and three bedrooms, including a luxurious primary suite.
