Even though it’s officially spring, around Europe snow is still falling on some of the continent’s best ski resorts.
Europe’s ski resorts draw folks from the around the world. And it’s not hard to understand why…
The pure, crisp alpine air…the satisfying crunch of snow underfoot…the incredible views you get standing at the top of some of the world’s most picturesque mountains…the exhilaration and sense of freedom as you whizz down a snowy mountain at speed…

Owning a property in a ski town is seen as a preserve of the wealthy. Think Aspen, Sun Valley, Vail…all places where you would need a millionaire’s bank balance to own a home close to the slopes.
But look to Europe, where the ski season runs from November to as late as May in some of the higher altitude ski resorts, and you’ll find that homes in resort towns can actually be affordable. In fact, in hidden gem ski locations across Romania, Italy, France, and even Spain, you can find stunning ski homes for a lot less than you might expect.
Now, to be clear, I’m not a skier. But I can certainly recognize the appeal…
So this week, I asked my team to research homes in Europe’s lesser-known ski destinations. Properties that offer breathtaking views, easy access to the slopes, and surprisingly affordable pricing.
Here’s what they’ve found…
Poiana Brașov, Romania Listing Price €105,000 ($113,350)

Tucked away in Romania’s Carpathian Mountains, Poiana Brașov is one of Eastern Europe’s most popular ski resorts. Just 7.5 miles from the medieval city of Brașov and 88 miles from Bucharest, the country’s capital, this charming destination is surrounded by dense forests and towering peaks.
While its well-maintained slopes draw skiers of all levels during winter, Poiana Brașov also offers excellent hiking and mountain biking trails in the summer. With modern infrastructure and an alpine village charm, it has become one of the country’s top tourist spots.
In this setting, we found this 452-square-foot one-bedroom apartment in a modern building. The property has a spacious living room, open kitchen, cozy bedroom, and a terrace with views to the woods. And it’s just four minutes from the nearest ski station. It’s listed for €105,000 ($113,340).

Sierra Nevada, Spain Listing Price: €175,000 ($188,900)

When people think of the Spanish region of Andalusia, they picture Mediterranean beaches and sunny weather. But did you know it’s also home to Spain’s best ski resort? Just 113 miles from the Costa del Sol, Sierra Nevada boasts some of the highest peaks in Spain, with altitudes reaching 10,800 feet.
One of my team members visited a few years ago and was stunned by the amount of snow—something you don’t expect in southern Spain! Yet, thanks to its high altitude, Sierra Nevada enjoys one of Southern Europe’s longest ski seasons, with slopes for every skill level.
Here, there’s this 614-square-foot duplex located in the middle of town. This alpine-style home is conveniently situated near shops and ski lifts. Part of a residential complex, the apartment includes access to a heated pool, a full gym, and a sauna. It also comes with a parking space and a storage unit—all for €175,000 ($188,900). La Vernaz, France Listing Price: €195,000 ($210,500)

Although not a ski resort, La Vernaz, a small village in the Rhône-Alpes region of southeastern France, is nestled in the heart of the French Alps. It’s close to some of the most renowned ski areas in this region, including Morzine and Les Gets, offering easy access to world-class slopes.
Surrounded by rolling hills, dense forests, and dramatic mountain peaks, La Vernaz is dotted with traditional Savoyard chalets, small local shops, and family-run restaurants, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Its slower pace of life and stunning natural surroundings make it an attractive destination for those looking to enjoy the beauty of the Alps without the crowds.
Just a 24-minute drive from La Vernaz, Morzine offers a vibrant mix of skiing, après-ski, and alpine culture. With 373 miles of skiable terrain, it caters to all levels, from beginners to expert skiers seeking challenging off-piste routes. Beyond skiing, Morzine boasts a variety of bars, gourmet restaurants, and wellness centers, making it a lively destination throughout the year.
In La Vernaz, there is a two-bedroom chalet situated on a 5,726-square-foot lot. Renovated in 2010, this cozy chalet has an open-plan living/kitchen area, a large bathroom, and a mezzanine level that is currently used as the second bedroom. Outside is a small garden and a walk-in storage unit.

Nova Levante-Welschnofen, Italy Listing Price: €200,000 ($215,850)

Located in northern Italy, Nova Levante-Welschnofen sits in the heart of the South Tyrol region, near the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This charming alpine village offers breathtaking mountain landscapes, a rich cultural blend of Italian and Austrian influences, and some of the most scenic ski terrain in Europe.
The village is nestled at 2,224 feet above sea level, surrounded by dense forests of chestnut and beech trees, making it an ideal retreat for those seeking an authentic alpine experience away from crowded tourist hotspots. In winter, it provides access to Carezza Ski, one of the most stunning resorts in the Dolomites, while summer offers exceptional hiking and outdoor adventures.
My team found this small, 474-square-foot apartment with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. The property has a cozy living area, a kitchenette, a bedroom, and a private balcony to take in the stunning scenery.
Building residents have access to a heated communal pool, and an elevator. The apartment is located near the Carezza ski lifts, providing quick access to the slopes and hiking trails. This is currently listed for €200,000 ($215,850). See the full listing here.

Crans-Montana is a prestigious ski resort perched on a sun-drenched plateau high above the Rhône Valley, in the Swiss Alps. It’s a destination that offers everything from world-class skiing in winter to golf and hiking in summer.
The resort boasts breathtaking panoramic views that stretch from Mont Blanc—Western Europe’s highest peak—to the legendary Matterhorn, one of the most iconic mountains in the Alps.
There, we found this spacious chalet that sits on an elevated position above the resort, offering a peaceful retreat just minutes from the action. It’s a spacious family chalet near the center of town consisting of three apartments across three floors. Overall, it has six bedrooms, four bathrooms, and three living areas. Outside there are two garages. The house is located near slopes, shops, restaurants, and hiking trails.
It’s priced at 2,750,000 Swiss francs ($3.1 million). See full listing here.
