I’m talking about Lagos, Portugal.

I’ve been scouting this town for over a decade. For years, it remained somewhat overlooked. While other parts of the Algarve saw heavy tourism development, Lagos preserved its character—a walkable old town, dramatic cliffs, and some of Europe’s finest beaches.

In the early 2000s, a modern highway cut the travel time from the airport serving the area in Faro to under an hour.

Access improved—but the real shift came later, in the 2010s…

That’s when Portugal emerged as one of Europe’s most welcoming destinations for international residents.

The buyers coming to Portugal weren’t just looking for short stays anymore. They wanted towns where they could live part and full-time.

Lagos was perfect for this.

Over the past decade, affluent buyers have flooded in. And now Lagos is entering a new phase.

Hundreds of millions of euros are flowing into the town. Global hospitality brands are arriving. Luxury developments are reshaping the marina district.

And yet, compared to Europe’s most established coastal hotspots, prices remain accessible.
