I’d wager most folks, even experienced travelers, haven’t heard of the Portuguese town of Caminha.
But I predict very soon, that will change…
The northern Portuguese town of Caminha is stunningly beautiful and culturally rich, yet it remains virtually unknown to foreign visitors and expats. So real estate prices there can be shockingly low…
Separated from Spain by only a river, Caminha is surrounded by rolling hills, lush forests, bucolic countryside, and soft-sand beaches. Its Old Town is centered on an enchanting cobblestone plaza where cafés, restaurants, art galleries, and boutique hotels circle a 16th-century stone fountain.
This is idyllic small-town Portugal.
Despite this, the town remains undiscovered and the real estate prices there are astonishingly low.
Slowly, though, word is getting out about Caminha. Visitors are beginning to discover this place. More will come.
That means this town has immense potential. That’s why I’ve named it my No. 2 place in the world for real estate investment in 2024, and my top destination in Europe. (You can see the full list here.)
Just a few days ago, my real estate scout Ciaran Madden and our RETA photographer/videographer Alan Kennedy had boots on the ground in Caminha.
They were there to dig deep on the best real estate opportunities as part of a wide-ranging scouting trip to coastal towns across northern Portugal. In Caminha alone, they found incredible plays like these….
- A 830-square-foot, two-bed condo, close to the beach and with views of the river, listed for €190,000.
- A 2,240-square-foot, five-bed fixer-upper in the heart of the Old Town available for just €174,900. (This could be a great short-term rental project.)
- A large, modern three-bed villa with a pool, close to the center of Caminha, listed at €369,000.
