VIDEO: Why Portugal Still Belongs on Your Radar

In June, I spent two and a half weeks driving the entire length of Portugal’s Atlantic coast…twice.

I went from the town of Caminha in the far north…down through the Silver Coast…all the way to Lagos in the Algarve…and then back again.

I’ve been scouting real estate in Portugal for more than two decades. I’ve personally bought for my personal portfolio multiple times in destinations across the country.

On this trip, my focus was on my favorite beach town in the Algarve: Lagos.

It’s a place I keep coming back to. A town where cobbled lanes lead to sunlit plazas and whitewashed churches…where a pedestrian bridge carries you over to a modern marina…and where clifftop trails wind above some of the most dramatic beaches in Europe.

Earlier this month, I brought an exclusive, off-market opportunity there to members of my Real Estate Trend Alert (RETA) group. These are deals I negotiate with developers using the group buying power of all RETA members.

In Lagos, members had the chance to secure a luxury condo a short walk from the golden cliffs of Ponta da Piedade, Lagos’ Old Town, and several world-class beaches including Dona Ana.

Praia Dona Ana is one of the most iconic beaches in Lagos, and one of the most photographed beaches in the Algarve. With the RETA deal earlier this month, members had the chance to own a five-minute stroll from this beach.

But my trip wasn’t just about meeting developers and looking at potential off-market deals to bring to RETA members.

I also stayed in my own homes: the historic villa I bought in Caminha, near the mouth of the Minho River that separates Portugal from Spain…and my condo in the Praia D’El Rey Beach and Golf Resort on Portugal’s Silver Coast, north of Lisbon.

During my trip, I revisited places I know intimately. I explored new towns. I checked listings. I tested my assumptions.

This was a reset. A chance to step back and look at all of Portugal with fresh eyes.

And my biggest takeaway is this: I came back more convinced than ever that I want more of my money invested in Portugal. I recorded a conversation with my editorial director Ciaran Madden to share everything I learned, including market updates on Lagos, Caminha, and the Silver Coast…and why the opportunity in Portugal today is more nuanced, and—in the right places—more compelling than ever.

In this video, I share my key takeaways and latest intelligence from two and a half weeks with boots on the ground in Portugal. Click to view…

In this conversation, I share…

  • The moment on a cliff above one of Europe’s most beautiful beaches when I realized I was not bullish enough on Lagos.
  • Why my Silver Coast condo has delivered a bigger uplift than I expected—but still isn’t the kind of deal I’d recommend to everyone.
  • Why the best opportunities on the Silver Coast may now be hiding in the properties most buyers scroll past too quickly.
  • The simple profiling exercise I used before buying in Portugal—and why it’s essential before you buy overseas.
  • How Caminha is changing in two different ways: gently on the ground…but fast in premium real estate.
  • The kind of Caminha property I’d look for today…and why the obvious listings may not be the best ones.
